Printing with Botanicals
at Hortulus Farm
Instructor Kathleen Lang will guide students through the very unique and magical process of eco printing on fabric and paper. Eco printing is a sustainable natural dyeing technique of capturing botanical prints directly from live and dried plants. A foraging walk along the beautiful Hortulus Farm will be followed by a discussion about the colors the collected plants with produce on silk. Students are also welcome to bring flower blossoms, leaves and other natural dye materials collected from nature along with any on going projects to the workshop. Students will learn how to arrange their “live plant design” on a silk scarf. The textiles will be processed using a bundling and cooking technique. This will cause the plants to decompose discharging color dye prints into the fabric. Students are invited to bring individual projects to the workshop for direction and advice. All participants will receive a list of items that can be gathered and flattened prior class. Supplies included: 8 X 72 inch silk scarf and all other supplies.

Advance Eco Printing
at Seasons Garden Center
Take your eco-printing skills to the next level. In this one day workshop students will learn how to layer gorgeous color backgrounds into an eco-printed textile. This class focuses on a technique called “eco-printing with a carrier blanket” and has become very popular among textile artists around the world. Beginning with a blank white scarf, participants will create a design on the fabric using plant materials. A separate fabric will then be used to infuse a colorful background. Participants are encouraged to have some previous eco-printing experience. After registration, participants will be guided to collect and flatten botanical materials to use or experiment with in their design. We will break for lunch. Feel free to bring your own or preorder an optional boxed lunch from our local gourmet deli.
